Many of the gameplay features from WWE '13 have been updated. These include the navigation system, allowing for more fluid walking, running and dragging motions. Characters also move faster than before. Before running, characters display "starting up" animations, to prevent players from spamming running attacks. All chain reversals now result in offensive attacks, to make for quicker matches by avoiding continuous reversal stalemates. Catapult finishers can now be used offensively. Some characters can launch an opponent into the air and catch them for a catch finisher. Seven new OMG moments have been added, allowing certain finishers to be done on two opponents, and players to interact with the arena environment.

Divine Fist is only achieved by successfully completing all of the league matches, survival tournaments and ranking tournaments in Tekken Dojo mode. The opportunity is offered once a promotion chance is offered sometime in the Heaven Dojo, the sixth stage in Tekken Dojo mode. Obviously it is only offered when the player is ranked as a Dark Lord.

Both characters start with a set amount of Bravery points, the number of Bravery points being equivalent to the amount of damage dealt by an HP attack. Thus, the player must perform several Bravery attacks to steal Bravery points from the opponent so as to increase the power of their HP attack, as Bravery attacks do not cause any damage.
The game initially focuses on the twelfth war between the gods Chaos and Cosmos who have summoned several warriors from parallel worlds to fight for them.
